A ninth-grade 16-year-old student from University Prep High School Angellyh Yambo was killed in a shooting near brazen South Bronx while heading home with two others.

Angellyh Yambo, 16, was named as the juvenile girl who was shot and killed early Saturday morning.
Yambo had just left Bronx Preparatory Charter School in the South Bronx when gunfire erupted near the corner of E. 156th and St. Anns at 1:45 p.m., according to investigators.
Yanely Henriquez, Yambo’s mother, said, “I sent my daughter to receive an education and she died.”
The shooting resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old suspect. Two more teenagers were injured.
The fatal shooting may have been carried out with a ghost gun, according to police. At the location, officers discovered six-shot casings.
“A child who has never had any contact with the police. And he goes from consuming marijuana to murdering someone — and I’m sorry, but I don’t know how to respond to that “Assistant Chief Timothy McCormack of the New York Police Department said as much.
Yambo was struck in the chest while another 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were each hit in the leg.
All three were taken to Lincoln Hospital where Yambo was pronounced dead. The other teens are expected to survive their injuries. They are all believed to be innocent bystanders.
“We are all devastated, we are numb, we are in disbelief. Now I have to get strong for my two older kids,” added Henriquez.
Police said the shooting stemmed from two people who were shouting and gesturing toward each other from across the street.
