Jacob Blair Scott, 44, was charged with one case of child exploitation, four charges of lustful touching of a child, and nine counts of s*xual battery.
Scott was sentenced to 85 years in prison and $10,000 in fines by Jackson County Circuit Judge Kathy King Jackson. Scott will be facing a life sentence, according to her.
Scott’s little boat was discovered off the coast of Orange Beach, Alabama, in July 2018. Officials discovered a rifle and a letter on the boat, but there was little forensic evidence indicating a suicide had taken place.
Authorities searched for Scott’s body for weeks but were unable to locate him, according to the US Marshals.
Scott was out on bond and had a court appearance set when he staged his own suicide, but he failed to show up. Scott apparently withdrew $45,000 out of a bank account before fleeing, according to authorities.
Before his apprehension, Scott was put on the US Marshals 15 Most Wanted Fugitive List in January 2020.
Scott was apprehended by officials in an Oklahoma RV park in 2020 while living under a false name.
The evidence in the case was “overwhelming,” according to Judge Jackson.

“The evidence is overwhelming,” Jackson said. “It’s more evidence than I’ve probably ever seen.”
During the trial, the victim claimed that Scott sexually abused her at least 30 times between 2016 and 2017, with the assaults ending when she became pregnant. According to her testimony, she gave birth to the child.
The crime was “brazen and so horrible,” according to District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath.
“This is the first time in my 18 years I have ever seen anything so brazen and so vile,” McIlrath said. “This is about blaming the 14-year-old. This whole trial was about humiliating the 14-year-old who had no choice.”
During the trial, Scott stated that mental health difficulties such as post-traumatic stress disorder had an impact on his mental state at the time of the offenses. Scott also appealed for Jackson to consider his mental health, claiming that he was depressed, heavily medicated, and dealing with relationship troubles at the time of the crime, all of which affected his judgment.
According to the US Marshals Service, Scott is a military veteran who received a Purple Heart for his service in Iraq, where he was injured.
