Multiple charges for attacking cops have been disclosed for a man who purported to be a patient before reportedly stabbing a doctor and two nurses inside a hospital.
Witnesses detailed Friday’s ‘bloodbath’ at Encino Hospital Medical Center in the San Fernando Valley after Ashkan Amirsoleymani, 35, was allegedly attacked.
According to the LAPD, Amirsoleymani has been charged with three counts of attempted murder in connection with the attack on Friday.
He is being kept in custody on a $3 million bond. On Saturday, it was unclear whether he had retained an attorney to speak on his behalf, and the district attorney’s office did not respond to an email inquiry about whether charges had been filed.
Amirsoleymani’s motivation has not been revealed, and Los Angeles Police Officer Rosario Cervantes said no more information was available on Saturday.
Amirsoleymani had multiple previous run-ins with the law, including being arrested twice for attacking police officers, according to the LAPD. He had been arrested only a year before.
According to police, Amirsoleymani entered Encino Hospital Medical Center in the San Fernando Valley soon before 4 p.m. Friday.
Authorities claimed he had stopped his car in the middle of a roadway and gone to the emergency room, where he begged for anxiety therapy before slashing the doctor and nurses.
Parham Saadat, a neighboring dental hygienist, claimed he and his colleague Faraz Farahnik dashed across the street to assist the wounded.
Blood All over the Floor
‘There was blood all over the floor, blood in the rooms, blood on the gurney the doctor was laying on,’ Saadat told the newspaper. ‘It was a bloodbath.’
Saadat claimed that he later locked a storage room door behind the suspect to keep him inside and that he only became scared when they made eye contact.
‘He just very calmly turned his face and looked at me through the window, then turned his head back around. No reaction,’ he said. ‘That´s where it kind of got me.’
Following the stabbing, the male attacker took refuge in a hospital room.
According to a hospital official, Amirsoleymani was apprehended at about 5 p.m. PST.
Three people were rushed to a trauma hospital in critical condition, according to fire authorities. One of the victims was later identified as being in severe condition and undergoing surgery, according to police.
Two of the victims have been treated and released, according to Dignity Health Northridge Hospital Medical Center. According to the TV station, the third victim is in fair but stable condition in the hospital.
On Saturday, the hospital did not reply to calls for comment.
The attack started around 3:50 p.m. and occurred near the hospital’s emergency room.
The defendant had a significant criminal history, according to LAPD, including two arrests last year for resisting arrest and battery on a police officer.
The hospital declared an “internal disaster” and halted new patient admissions and visitor access.
The identities of the victims are unknown, however, a witness informed NBC LA that two nurses and a female doctor were seen with wounds.
