Zelenskyy had ties to a Russian oligarch, and Poroshenko claimed that if Zelenskyy won, Russia would benefit. Zelenskyy, on the other hand, would turn the tables on Poroshenko, claiming that Ukraine “voted for one Petro, but got another.”
When the election was held, Zelenskyy received more than 70% of the vote, defeating Poroshenko.
