Sierra Jenkins, a 25-year-old journalist, was killed when she was caught in the crossfire outside of a restaurant and bar on Granby Street in downtown Norfolk, according to the Virginian-Pilot.
Jenkins’ shift to cover breaking news for the newspaper would have been Saturday, according to the Pilot. She couldn’t be reached when her editor called to ask her to cover the shoot.
Jenkins was with a friend at Chicho’s Pizza Backstage as the restaurant was closing when an altercation broke out outside, leading to the shooting, according to her relatives.
According to the newspaper, she was shot in the gunfire and later pronounced dead at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
According to the Norfolk Police Department, five persons were shot, including Devon M. Harris, 25, of Portsmouth, who died as a result of his injuries. Three others were taken to the hospital, with one of them suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to police.

As of early Sunday morning, no arrests had been made in the incident.
Jenkins, the oldest of three siblings, had only recently celebrated her 25th birthday, on March 13. According to sources, she had only been at her first apartment in Virginia Beach for about a month.
Jenkins’ father, Virginia Beach resident Maurice Jenkins, told the Pilot that his daughter was a nice, hardworking woman who enjoyed working as a journalist.
