Ramzan Kadyrov is a Russian and Chechen politician currently serving as the Head of the Chechen Republic. He was formerly a member of the Chechen independence movement.
He is the son of former Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov who switched sides in the Second Chechen War (offering his service to Vladimir Putin’s regime in Russia) and became Chechen President in 2003.
Chechen Leader Travels to Mariupol
According to Russian media sources, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has landed in the besieged southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol to boost fighter morale. Russia’s military campaign in pro-Western Ukraine has included Chechen fighters.
According to Ukraine, roughly 160,000 inhabitants in Mariupol are still trapped by Russian forces, with little or no food, water, or medical.
Chechnya’s National Politics Minister Akhmed Dudayev told official news agency RIA Novosti that Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov is in Mariupol to “boost the battle spirit of our warriors” as well as deliver them extra equipment.
In a brilliantly lighted room decked with a Russian flag, the news agency shared a group shot of Kadyrov with parliamentary lawmaker Adam Delimkhanov and roughly 20 Chechen fighters, including what appears to be a small youngster.
Kadyrov, 45, was raised to the rank of General-Lieutenant by Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Dudayev. Kadyrov is currently a member of the National Guard and previously held the rank of General Major.
Russian television aired footage of Kadyrov supposedly meeting a man identified as Lieutenant General Andrei Mordvichev, one of the generals accused of being assassinated by Ukrainian authorities. According to Dudayev, Kadyrov attended a meeting with Mordvichev and other commanders.

Kadyrov will “adjust and complete plan for next activities for a few of days, to release Mariupol,” he stated. “The clean-up of the city of Mariupol is going at full force,” Kadyrov, a former warlord turned Kremlin supporter, posted on Telegram.
He said, “Russian forces are going from building to building to rescue Mariupol from Nazi bandit organizations.” “Our fighters are in fantastic spirits, as they always are. Squalls of wind and shelling from large-caliber weaponry will not deter their determination to triumph “Kadyrov penned a letter. “Mariupol will be entirely emancipated in a very short time.”

On 15 February 2007, Putin signed a decree removing Alkhanov and installing Kadyrov as Chechen’s acting president. On 2 March 2007, following Putin’s nomination of Kadyrov as Chechen president, the Chechen parliament approved the nomination.
Kadyrov was nominated for a second term as president (now referred to as Head of the Chechen Republic) by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on 28 February 2011 and was unanimously elected for a second term by the Chechen Parliament on 5 March 2011. After his election, he stated that he was going to continue the current course of reviving the republic’s economy and society.
