Peter Bryden Malinauskas is an Australian politician who is the premier-elect of South Australia after the state election on March 19, 2022.
He is also the Member of Parliament for Croydon and the leader of the Australian Labor Party in South Australia.

Peter Malinauskas is the grandson of Lithuanian and Hungarian refugees who fled Europe during WWII to Australia. He attended Mercedes College, a famous Catholic school in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs, and was named school captain in year 12.
After working at a Woolworths in Mitcham, the passionate player went on to study commerce at the University of Adelaide.
His political career was all but assured when he succeeded Don Farrell, the so-called godfather of SA Labor’s right-wing, as secretary of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA).
By the time he was 30, he had been elected to the Labor Party’s National Executive.
The promised power arrived immediately and without a hitch.
Mr. Malinauskas, dubbed the “faceless guy” who tapped Mike Rann on the shoulder to notify him that he had lost the party’s support to Jay Weatherill, was a key figure in SA Labor’s 2011 leadership change.
He was immediately moved to the cabinet after joining the Legislative Council in late 2015 to fill a vacancy vacated by disgraced former police minister Bernard Finnigan.

Mr. Malinauskas won the ultra-safe Lower House seat of Croydon in the next state election, paving the way for his eventual leadership.
When the Liberal Party won government in 2018, Jay Weatherill resigned, and he took over as Prime Minister.
The succession plan that had been in place for many years had come to fruition.
