Michael Paredes, one of them, was shot and murdered by a suspect in El Monte on Tuesday as he and another officer arrived at the Siesta Inn Motel in El Monte to assist the gunman’s wife, a domestic violence victim while responding to a domestic violence complaint at 10327 Garvey Avenue.
Corporal Paredes and Officer Santana responded to a report of a probable stabbing between a boyfriend and girlfriend at 4:45 p.m., according to the reports. They were met with gunfire when they arrived at the hotel room. Responding officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect as he fled into the parking lot.
Both officers were transferred to the USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, where they died from their injuries. However, they were unable to survive.
