Jacoby, a part of the Seward Tsunami Swim Club, finished second in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Tuesday with the second-fastest time in the world this season.
Jacoby qualified for the U.S. team to compete in Tokyo next month by finishing second, though her status won’t be guaranteed until later in the Trials, which end Sunday in Omaha, Nebraska.
“I can’t tell you how much it means to me,” Jacoby told Swimming World Magazine after the race. “I’m so excited.
“It means so much to me to be able to represent my state at a meet like this. And I’m so excited to now represent my country as well. It’s amazing.”

Jacoby becomes the second Alaskan to earn a spot in the Summer Olympics. As a member of the women’s rugby 7s team, Alev Kelter of Eagle River is on track to compete in her second Olympics. Jacoby set a new national age-group record in her event for the second day in a row. She also made a remarkable surge in the latter part of the race for the second day in a row.
