During his absence from Supreme Court sessions, Justice Thomas will continue to participate in “examination and debate” of matters based on written materials and recordings of oral arguments, according to the court. Oral arguments will be heard by the justices on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Thomas is a conservative stalwart on the Supreme Court who has been on the bench for more than 30 years, longer than any other current justice.
The court did not explain why it took two days to provide the information. The health of Supreme Court justices is typically shrouded in secrecy, as Nina Totenberg of NPR noted.
