Kamsiah Kamaruddin, Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), died peacefully at Hospital Siloam Semanggi in Jakarta at 7 p.m. local time.

According to Adlan Mohd Shaffieq, Charge d’affaires of the Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia, the cause of death was dengue fever and underlying medical issues. Kamsiah, 54, was previously Malaysia’s Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore and was born on October 3, 1967.

She also served on the Governing Council of the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation as Malaysia’s representative (Asean-IPR). Meanwhile, her death grieved Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah.

“May her soul be showered with blessings and placed with those whom Allah SWT loves, and may the family persevere in facing this challenge. Al-Fatihah,” he said via his Twitter post last night. He said that the late Kamsiah had been with Wisma Putra since 1992 and had been stationed in Thailand and Singapore.

Kamsiah was also the wife of Norman Muhammad, the Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines.
