In 77 career games for the Panthers, he averaged 13.6 points and 4.9 rebounds and twice led them to the NCAA tournament, including a 31-point outburst in a first-round loss to Miami (Ohio) in 1958.

Pegues was drafted in the fourth round of the 1958 NHL draft by the St. Louis Hawks. Due to a five-year commitment to the United States Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program, he was ineligible to play.

Pegues is survived by Wennette, his 63-year-old wife, and their three children, Mary Pegues, Michael Pegues, and Angela Guillory, as well as their families.
