Jamaican officials have arrested a former Haitian senator who was the main suspect in the July assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise, according to Jamaican national police. According to Jamaica Constabulary Force spokesman Dennis Brooks, John Joel Joseph, a well-known Haitian politician listed by investigators as a suspect in Moise’s murder, was arrested on Friday.
Brooks would not say whether the arrest was made in response to a request from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is also looking into the murder. It was also unknown where in Jamaica Joseph was apprehended. Meanwhile, Jamaica Police Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay told The Associated Press that other people were arrested alongside Joseph and that investigators were attempting to ascertain whether they were family members.
