The executive John Mcvay died on Tuesday at the age of 91 on November 1, 2022. On Tuesday, the 49ers revealed that John McVay had passed away.
The reason for death was not disclosed.

McVay attended Massillon Washington High School. McVay continued his education at Miami University after graduating from high school.

John McVay was hired as head coach of the World Football League Memphis Southmen in 1974, during the league’s debut season.
In 1980
McVay accepted an administrative position with the San Francisco 49ers. He worked alongside Bill Walsh as part of one of the most successful dynasties in NFL history. He presided over five Super Bowl-winning seasons as vice president/director of football operations.
In 1989 – 1998
McVay was chosen as The Sporting News NFL Executive of the Year in 1989 following the team’s fourth Super Bowl victory. After resigning after the 1995 season, in 1996, he announced his retirement from the 49ers.
However, when the team was moved from Eddie DeBartolo Jr. to his sister, Denise, the York family desired a stable hand in the front office during the transition, similar to McVay’s. McVay agreed to return in 1998 and stayed for another five years. In his total playing, coaching, and administrative career, John McVay has had numerous proud moments.
In 1999 – 2003
He returned to the organization in 1999 as vice president and director of football operations until the 2003 season.
McVay has coached at many Ohio high schools, Michigan State University as an assistant coach, and the University of Dayton as a head coach
