Best recognized for his work on the Cole House, the Hollywood Boathouses, and Eagle’s Watch, all of which contributed to the development of a more complex visual culture in Southern California.
Gesner was a fearless modernist who defied midcentury traditions in pursuit of his own vision of landscape-derived naturalistic “nests” that were more intentionally responsive to both environmental components and local character.
Gesner is survived by his daughter Tara, sons Jason and Zen, and stepson Casey Dolan from a previous marriage. Harry Gesner was 97-years-old.
