Officials say a convicted murderer who escaped from a prisoner bus in Texas last month was killed in a gunfight with authorities late Thursday, just hours after he was declared the lead suspect in the murders of four children and an adult in a Leon County home.
The Collins brothers, Waylon, 18, Carson, 16, and Hudson, 11, were celebrating the start of summer with their cousin, Bryson, and grandfather, Mark, when Gonzalo Lopez, a convicted killer who had escaped from a prison bus, murdered them.
According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, law enforcement in Atascosa County spotted Gonzalo Lopez’s stolen vehicle, damaging it with spike strips, and there was a shootout at Jourdanton, south of San Antonio when Lopez was shot by law enforcement. Lopez has been identified as dead, and no law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
