Ted accepted the offer and was paired alongside Scott Waites, Wayne Mardle, and Simon Whitlock in group E. He defeated Phil Taylor 5–4 in the group stages of the 2010 Grand Slam of Darts, giving him two victories out of two. He then defeated Michael van Gerwen, 5–4, to advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.

The PDC announced on its website the day after Hankey’s statement that he was quitting the BDO that it was providing two-year tour cards to the semi-finalists of the 2012 BDO World Darts Championship. In February 2013, Hankey returned to competitive darts for the first time in three months in a bid to qualify for the UK Darts Masters, the first European Tour event of the year.

Hankey’s two-year tour card expired after the 2014 World Championship, and he lost his place in the PDC because he was rated 94th in the world, far outside the top 64 players who retain their professional status.
