His family reported Wednesday that a liberal media critic who established Salon magazine was killed when he was struck by an NJ Transit train while riding his bicycle.
“Eric was a staunch advocate of democracy, social justice, and truth in media through his journalism, social media, books, and appearances on CNN and MSNBC,” Boehlert’s family said in a statement released Wednesday.
“In his probe of media hypocrisy and double standards, he was bold and clever, and his contribution was priceless.”
Boehlert also contributed to Rolling Stone and Billboard magazines as a journalist.
Hillary Clinton, a former Democratic presidential contender, also commented on Boehlert’s death.
“The passing of @EricBoehlert is awful news,” Clinton tweeted. “I’m heartbroken for his family and friends, and I’ll miss his important work combating disinformation and bias in the media.” What a pity.”
