A team aboard a search-and-rescue helicopter discovered a motionless body in the snow at the base of the Triple Couloir on the north face of Dragontail Peak around 11:15 a.m. on March 30.
A two-person ground team arrived at about 2:30 p.m. and determined Thurmer was the casualty. On the spot, he was pronounced dead. It appeared that he had fallen hundreds of feet. The body was recovered using a helicopter hoist on March 31.
