Chris Bailey, the main vocalist of the Saints, a famed Australian band, has died.

On Monday, the band confirmed his death on Facebook.

“It is with great pain in our hearts that we have to inform you about the passing of Chris Bailey, singer, and songwriter of The Saints, on April the 9th 2022,” the statement said.

“Chris lived a life of poetry and music and was stranded on a Saturday night.”

Bailey was born in 1957 in Nanyuki, Kenya, to Irish parents and spent the first seven years of his life in Belfast before moving to Australia with his family.

He met bandmates Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay at Corinda state high school, where they lived in Inala, Brisbane. Kid Galahad and the Eternals was their original moniker, but they changed it to the Saints in 1974.

Kuepper, who left the band in 1978 due to creative differences with Bailey, expressed his sorrow over Bailey’s death on Monday, stating the two had “an exceptionally close artistic connection” and that he “couldn’t have dreamed for a better Singer.”

The song (I’m) was the group’s first hit. Stranded formed in 1976 and released their first album of the same name the following year. They went on to release another 13 albums. Following the formation of their own label, Fatal Records, in 1976, they were signed to EMI for a three-album deal.

Bailey was the only member of the band who stayed with them throughout their entire run.
