Charles Butler, a hardworking, happy-go-lucky businessman and divorced father of three, was overjoyed to return to New York City in 2012. He grew up in Queens and migrated to Florida when he was in his early twenties.
THE LAST WORDS ARE HAUNTING New video shows the harrowing final seconds before businessman Charles Butler was stabbed, smothered, and dumped in a river.
The terrifying final moments of a Florida father who was stabbed and strangled to death before his body was dumped in a New York river by his new girlfriend’s jealous ex have been revealed in the new film.
Charles Butler, 56, vanished in September 2012 from his girlfriend’s Brooklyn residence, never to be seen again.
The father-of-three is seen beaming in a self-recorded video giving his family a tour of his “new hood” on the streets of New York just days before his tragic murder, according to an exclusive tape obtained.
Butler had stayed the night at Lioznov’s flat on September 18, 2012, and was last spotted leaving at 7.40 a.m. the next morning.
A car belonging to her ex-husband, Mikhail Chernyaev, was recorded on surveillance footage pulling into the garage just four minutes later.
After that, Butler was never seen alive again. Butler’s daughter received an odd SMS from her father’s number later that day in bad English saying “Don’t think about me. I’m returning to Florida.”
Butler’s children told that they recognized something was wrong with their father right away and called the NYPD.
Because there were no indicators of foul play, the investigation was conducted as a missing person case for several weeks but that changed when a fisherman discovered a decaying body in an isolated spot outside of Port Jervis, NY.
BODY ‘THROWN OFF CLIFF’
In May 2013, the body was positively identified as Butler’s using a skeleton sketch, a single usable fingertip print, and DNA analysis. He’d been stabbed many times, smothered, and strangled before being tossed off a cliff, according to police.
Chernyaev and Lioznov were back together by this time, with Lioznov swooping in the night after Butler’s sudden disappearance to console her – and sleep with her.
He was apprehended and originally provided investigators with a bogus alibi, claiming Butler died in an accident. Later, he admitted to killing his loved rival but claimed it was in self-defense.
Butler was killed inside Lioznov’s flat, according to authorities, when Chernyaev discovered him lying in his ex-wife’s bed.
He stabbed Butler in the back and strangled him to death, driven by envy. He then drove 90 miles to Port Jervis, where Butler’s body was thrown in the Delaware River.
For his part, he denied having anything to do with the killing, telling the court that he had been “framed” by police, and was “sympathizing for the whole family.”
