Biodun Oyebanji of the APC has been declared the winner of the Ekiti governorship race by INEC.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Biodun Oyebanji was declared the winner of the Ekiti governorship election on Saturday.
Prof. Oyebode Adebowale, the returning officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Oyebanji the winner, saying he received a total of 187, 057 votes.
He claimed that because Oyebanji had certified the law, he was proclaimed the winner.
While giving the breakdown of the total votes earned by the participating political parties, the INEC returning officer, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, revealed that Mr Segun Oni, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, came in second with 82, 211 votes.
Others, according to him, were Chief Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 67,457 votes; Accord (A) received 166 votes; African Action Congress (AAC) received 409 votes; All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) received 17 votes; and Action Democratic Congress (ADC) received 141 votes.
In addition, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) received 5,597 votes; the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) received -290 votes; the Labour Party (LP) received 195 votes; the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) received 529 votes; and the National Rescue Movement (NRM) received 347 votes.
The rest were the Young Progressives Party (YPP) with 618 votes, the All Peoples Party (APP) with 1,980 votes, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) with 282 votes, and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) with 856 votes.
The total number of registered voters was 989,224, accredited voters were 363,438, valid votes were 351865, and voided votes were 8888, according to the INEC Returning Officer.
Prof. Gbolagade Jonathan, the Ekiti South West Local Government Area Collation Officer, said there were allegations of ballot theft in Ward 6, Units 5 and 7.
While giving his reports, Jonathan stated that they were preparing to sort the results when gunmen attacked the impacted units and began shooting randomly, forcing everyone to flee for safety while carting away the voting boxes.
He stated that the two impacted units had a total of 266 and 128 accredited voters, respectively.
