Federal prosecutors on Wednesday charged two men they reported posing as the federal agents, giving free apartments and various other gifts to US Secret Service Agents including one who worked at the first lady’s security detail. The two men-Arian Taherzadeh age 40 and Haider Ali age 36.
They were arrested and taken into custody as several dozen FBI agents barged into their apartment in Southeast Washington on Wednesday evening.

He is accused of providing secret service and agents with rent-free apartments that also have penthouses worth in excess of $ 40,000 per year alongside iPhones, surveillance systems, a drone, flat-screen television and generator, gun case, and other tools as per court documents.
Authorities have not detailed what, if anything, the men were trying to accomplish by posing as law enforcement officers or by giving gifts. The plot was uncovered when the U.S. Postal Inspection Service began investigating an assault involving a mail carrier at the apartment building and the men identified themselves as being part of a fake Homeland Security unit they called the U.S. Special Police Investigation Unit.
Prosecutors also allege Taherzadeh and Ali had lied about working for the Department of Homeland Security and working on a special task force investigating gang and violence connected to the Jan. 6 insurrection which occurred at US Capitol.
Prosecutors also reported that the men had also set up surveillance in the building and had been told the residents that they could access any of their cellphones at any time. He also offered to let them use a black GMC SUV that he calls an “official government vehicle,” prosecutors say. Prosecutors also reported that four Secret Service employees were placed on leave earlier this week as part of the investigation.
