Anne Beaumanoir was born in Guildo, Dinan, France, on October 30, 1923. At the time of her death, she was 98 years old. She is the daughter of Jean and Marthe Beaumanoir, who used to work as waiters and waitresses in a restaurant.

Anne Beaumanoir’s Career, What is her Profession?
She was a neurophysiologist and a French resistance fighter. For their help to Jews in Brittany during WWII, Yad Vashem named Mary and her parents Righteous Among the Nations. She was imprisoned as a militant communist linked with the French Resistance during WWII for assisting the FLN in the Algerian War.
Beaumanoir was a medical student in France who simultaneously served as a hidden Communist Party activist. In 1955, however, she had a falling out with the PCF and resigned. In Marseille, she met the worker-priests and heard about their humanitarian work among Algerians.
She returned to Paris and took up a position as a medical researcher. During the Algerian War, she collaborated with the FLN, and in November 1959, she was arrested and condemned to ten years in prison. She fled to Tunisia, where she joined the FLN and worked as a neuropsychiatrist under Frantz Fanon. After the Algerian War concluded with the Évian Accords, Beaumanoir worked for Ahmed Ben Bella’s government as the Minister of Health.
When he was removed in 1965, she fled to Switzerland, where she became the director of the neurophysiology department at the University Hospital of Geneva. Beaumanoir spent her senior years dividing her time between the home village of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo in Brittany’s Côtes-d’Armor region and Dieulefit in the Drôme department. She campaigned for Syrian refugees to be allowed to stay in the United States.
