Grace Millane, a British traveller, was murdered by Jesse Kempson. Until now, a court order has kept the 28-year-identity old’s hidden.
In November 2019, Kempson was convicted guilty of the murder of Millane, a British tourist, in Auckland’s CityLife Hotel in December 2018. He’ll bury her in the Waitakere Ranges later. Kempson’s counsel claimed at his trial that Millane’s death was an accident that occurred during some form of forceful sex.
In February of this year, he was condemned to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

The top investigator in charge of the investigation into the death of British traveller Grace Millane has described the first time detectives met the man who killed her.
Millane was killed by a guy she met on Tinder, then 26-year-old Jesse Shane Kempson, on the weekend of her 22nd birthday in December 2018 in Auckland.
The murder of Grace Millane was included in an episode of the British documentary series Social Media Murders, which will air on TV3 in New Zealand tonight.
It features early police interviews with murderer Kempson in the days after Millane’s killing, as well as important participants in the New Zealand inquiry, such as Detective Inspector Scott Beard and main prosecutor Brian Dickey.
Millane’s disappearance, according to Beard, had raised red flags from the start.
He told the program that missing person reports were common, and that they suspected she had gone on a holiday or to a remote island without phone service.
“But this was different. The fact that on her birthday she hadn’t contacted her family and her family hadn’t been able to contact her – that was a huge red flag.”
Millane’s friends said they weren’t concerned when she didn’t respond for a few days while she was on vacation, but they became anxious after her birthday.

Beard stated that social media played an essential role in the investigation, and that they were able to rapidly find the person eventually convicted of her murder using Facebook.
“We’d found on Grace’s Facebook page, the last person to comment was a Jesse Shane.
“We didn’t know who that was. One of the [police] staff Facebook messaged Jesse Shane, then he gave his name which was Jesse Shane Kempson. The next day he contacts the police.”
